I cant stand + verb ing ตัวอย่าง

พูดถึงศัพท์ความอดทนแล้ว มาดูภาษาพูดเกี่ยวกับความอดทนหน่อย ซึ่งรู้ศัทพ์แล้วก็ไม่จำเป็นว่าจะพูดถูกครับ เราต้องรู้ด้วยว่าเขาพูดกันอย่างไร อันแรกคือ ฉันทนไม่ไหวแล้ว

• I can’t stand it. นี่ก็ใช้กันโดยทั่วไป ทั้งทนแบบเล็ก ๆ ถึงใหญ่ ๆ ถ้าจะให้ชัดเจนว่า ทนมานานแล้วแต่ทนต่อไปไม่ไหวก็พูดว่า I can’t stand it any more. หรือ I can no longer stand it.

ไม่จำเป็นต้องเป็น it นะครับ จะเน้นถึงสิ่งที่เราทนไม่ไหวก็ได้ ก็บอกลงไป เป็นนามหรือ verb+ing เช่น

• I can’t stand this.
• I can’t stand his behavior. ฉันทนกับพฤติกรรมของเขาไม่ได้
• I can’t stand not being with you. ฉันทนอยู่โดยไม่มีเธอไม่ได้
• I can’t stand politicians. ฉันทนพวกนักการเมืองไม่ได้
• I can’t stand the fact that they cheated us. ฉันทนไม่ได้ที่พวกเขามาโกงเรา หรือ หลอกเรา ใช้ the fact that หรือ that เฉย ๆ ก็ได้

สังเกตว่า สำนวนนี้มักจะใช้เป็นรูปปฎิเสธกับ can’t หรือ cannot ประโยคคำถามก็พอจะใช้ได้ แต่ไม่ค่อยเห็นมีใครใช้เป็นประโยคบอกเล่า อีกสำนวนหนึ่งที่แปลว่า ทน ก็คือ “to put up with” อันนี้ใช้เป็นบอกเล่าก็ได้ เช่น

• I can’t put up with this. ฉันทนไอ้นี่ไม่ได้
• We have put up with this for so long. พวกเราทนมานานแล้ว
• Why should we have to put up with this? ทำไมเราต้องมาทนกับมันด้วย

บางคนถามว่า อ้าวแล้ว patience, tolerance, endurance ที่พูดถึงในตอนก่อนหายไปไหน ก็ยังใช้ได้ครับ tolerance กับ endurance มีรูปกริยาซึ่งก็สามารถพูดใช้ได้ว่า I can’t tolerate this (any more). หรือ I can’t endure this (any more). แต่ stand กับ put up with เป็นสำนวนพูดที่คนพูดติดปากกว่า ความหมายหลวม ๆ กว่า

2. ตัวอย่าง Verb ที่ตามได้ทั้ง Gerunds (รูป Ving) & to-Inf V. แล้วความหมายเหมือนกัน คล้ายกัน (ไม่ต่างกันมาก)

🌧 begin (v.) เริ่มต้น

It began raining. = It began to rain.

\= ฝนเริ่มตกแล้ว

⏰ continue (v.) ทำต่อไป

He continued working after a short break. = He continued to work after a short break.

\= เขาทำงานต่อไปหลังจากพักเบรคสั้นๆ

😭 start + (v.) เริ่ม

She started crying. = She started to cry.

\= หล่อนเริ่มที่จะร้องไห้

3. ตัวอย่าง Verb ที่ตามได้ทั้ง Gerunds (รูป Ving) & to-Inf V. แต่ความหมายไม่เหมือนกัน

ใช้กับ Gerunds (รูป Ving) ใช้กับ to-Inf V. 🛑 stop = หยุดสิ่งที่กำลังทำอยู่

Suddenly everyone stopped talking. = ทันใดนั้นทุกคนก็หยุดการพูดคุย

🛑 stop = หยุดเพื่อทำสิ่งอื่น

I stopped to fill in the form. = ฉันหยุดเพื่อที่จะกรอกแบบฟอร์ม

✅ try = ลอง

I try putting on this shirt. = ฉันลองใส่เสื้อตัวนี้

✅ try = พยายาม

I try to finish my homework. = ฉันพยายามที่จะทำการบ้านให้เสร็จ

🤔 remember = จำเรื่องในอดีตได้

I remember seeing her on the bus. = ฉันจดจำการเจอหล่อนบนรถบัสได้

I regret having been rude to him. = ฉันเสียใจกับการหยาบคายกับเขา

😭 regret = เสียใจกับสิ่งที่จะเกิดในอนาคต

I regret to say that you failed the test. = ฉันเสียใจที่จะบอกว่าคุณสอบตก

ใช้กับ Gerunds (รูป Ving) ใช้กับ to-Inf V. ✅ like / love / hate = ใช้กับสิ่งที่เป็นนิสัย

She likes reading books. \= ฉันชอบการอ่านหนังสือ (เป็นนิสัย)

✅ like / love / hate = ใช้กับสถานการณ์เฉพาะ

She likes to read books in the garden. \= หล่อนชอบที่จะอ่านหนังสือในสวน

🤪 forget = ลืมสิ่งที่เคยทำในอดีต

I’ll never forget buying my first house. \= ฉันจะไม่ลืมการซื้อบ้านหลังแรกของฉัน

🤪 forget = ลืมสิ่งที่ต้องทำ

I forgot to buy coffee, so I had to drink tea instead. \= ฉันลืมที่จะซื้อกาแฟมา ดังนั้นฉันจึงต้องดื่มชาแทน

📝 learn = เรียนจากการสอน / ห้องเรียน

She advised checking the first option. = หล่อนแนะนำให้เลือกตัวเลือกอันดับแรก

She advised me to check the first option. = หล่อนแนะนำให้ฉันเลือกตัวเลือกอันดับแรก

📌 recommend (v.) แนะนำ

The plumber recommended buying a new faucet. = ช่างประปาแนะนำให้ซื้อก๊อกน้ำอันใหม่

The plumber recommended me to buy a new faucet. = ช่างประปาแนะนำให้ฉันซื้อก๊อกน้ำอันใหม่

📌 allow (v.) อนุญาต

They don’t allow smoking in public places. = พวกเขาไม่อนุญาตให้สูบบุหรี่ในที่สาธารณะ

They don’t allow people to smoke in public places. = พวกเขาไม่อนุญาตให้คนสูบบุหรี่ในที่สาธารณะ

📌 permit (v.) อนุญาต

He doesn’t permit keeping pets on the premises. = เขาไม่อนุญาตให้มีสัตว์เลี้ยงในสิ่งปลูกสร้าง

He doesn’t permit tenants to keep pets on the premises. = เขาไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้เช่ามีสัตว์เลี้ยงในสิ่งปลูกสร้าง
