After buying an open box notebook on eBay, I found that there was problem with the wifi signal. The symptoms suggested that there was something wrong with the antenna of the wifi, but only way I could be sure was to open and check.

To open, undo the 11 screws at the back of the laptop, pretty standard, so far.

Look for these screws

Once done, pry open the side with the keyboard, and you need to be careful not to pull it too far to break the ribbon cables.

Take a look at the image below may be a more suitable starting point for prying. Be careful while prying as the plastic is delicate.

Upon checking the cables running to the wifi card, it did turn out that they were unplugged to the socket. Plugging both the antenna cables on the card sockets, helped bring the wifi functionality to normal.

The wires were out of the sockets

So the wifi was fixed and working great. I had got the laptop without the SSD, and I know that it would support and M2 SSD, so I had bought one. Upon opening I realized it not just as easy, since the SSD slot was on the other-side of the mother board and to access that the whole laptop had to be disassembled, flip the mother board fix the M2 and put it all together again.

Looking at the density of the board and realizing how delicate it was I was reluctant to go further at this point and I started looking for instructions online. This model of the laptop being not so popular, there isn’t any instruction online.

Anyways, I gathered the courage again and opened it up. Important part was to take off those four ribbon cables, carefully without breaking. The ribbon cable comes off upon lifting the black notch on the connectors.

Flip in the direction of the arrows

Take out the screws on the motherboard and the batteries. Unplug the display cable and the touchscreen cable. The display cable sticks to the motherboard and needs little bit of careful effort to take it off the motherboard. Now, the motherboard needs to be taken out, after manipulating the headphone socket.

The headphone jack holds the motherboard from coming out

The m2 socket is very much on the right side, so I didn’t have to struggle with taking out the board completely, as the cooler fan was stuck somewhere and it was making it hard to flip the motherboard.

Putting it all back together is not that hard, as long as, there is a track of which screw goes where, while pushing in the mother board the headphone jack gives a little bit of trouble.

Plug back the ribbon cables, please note if the previous state of the laptop was hibernated, then the touch pad and the finger sensor might now work until after the restart.

Asus definitely did not design this laptop with any kind of upgrade in mind. But the performance of the laptop increases significantly after the upgrade to SSD. In the end it’s all good and fun.
