When working with softer soil conditions, the M.C. Miller RE-5C is recommended. The pointed tip of the cell allows the reference electrode to be placed into the soil, offering maximum surface contact. The main body is built out of a Lexan tube with a side viewing window to check on the reference cell’s condition. Inside the tube, the reference cell comes with a high purity copper core rod and some initial copper/copper sulfate crystals for initial use.

• Lexan tube body with viewing window • High purity copper core rod • Pointed ceramic plug front end • Back end comes with a 1/4 inch threaded end • 6.0” length, 1.375” diameter
The M.C. Miller RE-5C portable reference electrode is used to measure pipe to soil potential reading at the grounds surface. The pointed ceramic plug is to be pushed into the soil where the potential readings are to be made. Once the cell is placed in the ground, connected to a true RMS multi-meter through the negative terminal, the positive connection can be touched to the structure to give the potential reading.
When ordering a RE-5C portable reference electrode, please make sure to indicate the quantity of cell’s you may require. Corrpro offers replacement copper/copper sulfate crystals for servicing the reference electrode, as well as copper sulfate anti-freeze solution for winter performance of the reference cell. The reference cell does not come with a lead to connect to a true RMS multi-meter. Corrpro offers a selection of lead assemblies for the reference cell.

Portable, Pointed Tip for CP Testing in Softer Soil
Description
Similar to Model RE-5 except supplied with a cone-shaped CPT porous plug. For use in soft soils. Provides lower contact resistance. When pushed into soft soils, the shape of the plug helps the electrode to "stand up."
Approximate overall size: 1-3/8" dia. X 6 3/4" long. Dry weight: 5 oz.
All copper sulfate electrodes are shipped dry but include a charge of high-purity copper sulfate crystals. A protective cap for the CPT porous plug is also supplied.
Copper/copper sulfate reference electrode with rugged ceramic plug having a conical shaped surface. Designed for use in soft soils. High purity copper rod and robust Lexan tube. Electrode has a transparent “window” to view the condition of the saturated copper sulfate solution. The saturated copper sulfate solution is prepared (inside the Lexan tube) by the end user, according to the provided instructions. Supplied with a charge of copper sulfate crystals inside the Lexan tube.
